Because I couldn't have said it better myself, I'll leave in in :iconninjakato:'s words.

"It's not real" -- It sure as heck feels real. So real it IS my reality on a daily basis.

"It's just an excuse to get out of doing things that other people have to" -- I'd love to do thing other people are doing, and I'd relish in being happy when I do so.

"You're just a little sad, you'll get over it" -- Depression isn't just 'feeling sad sometimes'... it's feeling sad ALL the time for what seems like no reason at all.

"Just grow up! Everyone is depressed, you just have to deal with it like everyone else!" -- Stop using everyone else to justify your insensitivity to other people's conditions (also, most of the people suffering from depression are adults, you don't get much more 'grown up' than adult).

"You're not suffering from anything, you're just lazy, ungrateful, and being silly" -- Ok, because obviously I LOVE feeling miserable, worthless, and stupid all the time...who wouldn't...?

"Stop using that as an excuse to not do anything." -- If I could manage to do something about this, I would.

"All young people go through that phase, it'll pass" -- and when it doesn't?

"You have everything catered to you, what do you have to be depressed about?!" -- I can't imagine.

"Stop trying to get pity by acting all hum-glum all the time! If you 'act' happy you'll BE happy! -- Because every role an actress plays is who she is, right?

95% of the people you ask about depression will classify it as a mental condition which can be cured, treated, or even avoided given the right circumstances.

The other 5% will tell you what it is from experience.

Depression isn't an excuse to give up. It's a cause and reason for someone to stay in the shadows, watch the world pass, hoping people around you won't notice the tears in your eyes or the marks on your arms. It's a ripple effect from something that happened to someone, something that caused them pain and suffering.
Something they fear they cannot share with the world, even the part of the world which cares for them.

Depression isn't just a sad feeling, it's a broken feeling. Nothing you do goes right, everything you touch fades, and you are the worse human being on the planet feeling.

It's not a fad.
It's not a trend.
It's not a crutch.
It's not an excuse.
Depression is real, please stop pretending it's not.

To those who will turn a blind eye because it doesn't effect them or because to them someone depressed is just someone who is weak-- who doesn't want to see the good in life or put a smile on their face regardless of their circumstances... If it were you, would you think different?
Would you turn a blind eye then?
Could you walk away from someone crying from suffering and internal pain, even when there is no blood showing the wounds?

Not all wounds carry visible scars... and even then do, not all of them are skin deep.

I want you to (today or tomorrow) step up to someone you love/care about-- someone you think may be suffering from depression-- and I want you to reach out to them. To hug them, to tell them you understand even when you don't. Be that one voice amid the naysayers that shows them there's still good in this world.
Show them you know their depression isn't just a ruse, an excuse, or a farce to attention.
Remind them of how wonderful they are, how much they mean to you and to the world. Hold them tight to you and tell them you love them no matter what.
Look past the scars, the tears, and the broken pieces and try to help them rebuild themselves by being the glue that puts them back together.
Thank you~

You have no idea how much supporting somebody can help them, honestly, please take this to heart. <3

Thank you for making people aware of depression. People need supprt, not someone telling them it.

It's sad how people will simply push something that they don't want to acknowledge away from them.
"It's not real." Yes it is.
I personally lost an entire two years of my life to depression.
It is /not/ a way to get attention.
It's a /mental illness/.
Thank you for posting this. More people should be aware of what depression is, not what people /think/ it is.

good lord thank you. so many people see it as cool, or use it as an excuse to get attention. and then when you tell them that it is real, and it's a problem, they shrug it off and say it's easy to overcome. it's's a mental illness. there is nothing cool about it. I just want to say to those people "oh, you think it's cool? you want a mental illness? here, take mine. i'd give anything to get better."

I feel depressed sometimes, and its almost always to do with the fact that I'm a girl. Part of depression is feeling that your always depressed, even tho u r not. Lately I've been very active with my new cow, and that helps so much... :)

I understand that feeling. I've went through it, and I can honestly say: It's real, and it's not easy to get rid of. It's a mission actually to get rid of.

Whatever caused your depression, just know that we (your watchers) care for you and wish for you to feel well. Take as much time as you need to be away, I'm sure most of us understand, and heck; most of us might understand the feeling you're going through right now.

Hope you get well. Peace.

I bring myself down sometimes but then get back up, I don't know much of how my depression comes. I guess friendship can solve depression very easily cuz I cheered up my online friends, but sometimes they can't cheer me up, sometimes the only person to cheer you up is you, cuz I try to cheer myself up.

I don't know if I'm depressed, I don't know if I'm masochistic, but I sure do feel like it.

Maybe it's in my head.

I bet it's in my head. I'm imagining it to get out of it. It's all in my head...

I know what that is like it is very sad but with friends it can get better. (Lots of people stay away from me because I was sad a lot.)

I'm pretty sure I have an acute case from it. Ever since my friend died... Well, you know what. I have to move on.

Beautiful speech.

I agree with this 100%, I get so angry when people say STAY AWAY FROM DEPRESSED PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY WILL ONLY BRING YOU DOWN. Ugh ;-;
